One of my favorite places to stay close to Washington DC is at McGuire Air Force Base. It is close enough to visit Williamsburg, Jamestown and many other historical sites. Enterprise is located inside the mall at the base exchange and you can catch a shuttle from the base lodging to the exchange on the hour. There is also a little subway shop about a block from the lodge that worked out great for us since we arrived on foot and needed to find something quick. The people at the main gate are amazing. It was 105 degrees out, and we had to drag our heavy suitcases about 1/3 mile to the front gate. We expected the base to have a shuttle, or the lodge to be close. Neither worked out and we were ready to pass out. The airman behind the counter went beyond the call of duty and took us to the lodge in her own car. I will never forget her because she used her coffee break to help us out. It’s a great place to stay. We tried to give her a tip, but she simply said, “pay it forward.” Love that.

Bad news for people flying into McGuire AFB on Space A. There is no longer a shuttle. I just found this out on Johns Space A blog.
