Just a glimpse of Belgium

We took a train from London through the English countryside changing trains several times before we finally reached Dover. I know we went out of our way to get there but the train was a great expedition. People are ready to help old folks like us find their way around and they love to point out sights that the locals enjoy visiting. We spoke to people in every station and they were so kind and helping. I loved getting up close and personal with them.  They also enjoy hearing about the United States. We took a ferry to Calais, France and then we took a train into Lyon where we changed trains, with a stop off in  in Brussels, we finally ended up in  Mons Belgium at the Nato Base.  We stayed in military lodging for five days before heading back to London. Incidentally, in Calais, we didn’t know which train to take, and no one spoke English so we waited in the station for several hours watching trains come and go. Finally, a man from Poland came by who  spoke perfect English. He told us all the trains ended up in Paris. Laughing at our own stupidity, we jumped on the next train and spent eleven hours trying to get to Mons.  The lesson we learned was to research these things. It was my idea to just jump on a train in London and go to Mons, Belgium.  I loved the adventure, but if your not up for a night in a deserted train station in France you need to do some research on your transportation. On the other hand, if your an adventurer at heart like me, you absolutely love the Experience. Lee is my husband of fifty years, and he is use to my craziness, Just look at that stunned look on his face. After we arrived in Southampton, England Lee thought that we were flying right back to New York until I said, “Surprise, we are off on an adventure.” Doesn’t he look excited? HaHa.  Actually he was trying to figure out the menu, and probably a little worried about getting back to the base before dark. After this trip we went nine more times, not just to Belgium but all over Europe. Some of our adventures were well planned out,and some were just off the cuff, no plan. Love those.
