The decision to be free of the British was made here. War raged from 1776-1781, The docents discuss the daily challenges and sacrifices that were made here. It is commercialized but the historical society does a nice job of producing a living history site. I will admit that the shops are a definite plus  for me. Williamsburg lies in America’s Historic Triangle, Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown. There is a 23 mile scenic highway connecting the historic triangle. The Treaty of Paris was signed at Jamestown ending the Revolutionary War. I have been here four times and I always see something that I missed. There is so much to see and do in this area. If you make it out to the coast, and are close to Newport News, make sure you visit the Mariners Museum. It is a great maritime museum, and well worth a visit.
